Call for Professional Development Workshops

Submission Deadline: Tuesday, 14 January 2020 at 5:00 PM ET (NY Time)

The OB Division invites creative and engaging proposals for interactive Professional Development Workshops (PDW) sessions for the 2020 AOM Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The OB Division’s PDWs will be scheduled from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on both Friday, 7 August and Saturday, 8 August 2020.

PDWs allow you the opportunity to develop and participate in innovative, inclusive, and profession-enhancing experiences. PDW sessions can address any issue of interest to OB scholars and/or practitioners. We are particularly interested in sponsoring PDWs that offer creative strategies for bridging boundaries between individuals or groups (e.g., between practitioners and academics, between international and domestic scholars, between qualitative and quantitative research, between micro- and macro- scholars or between junior and senior scholars). Sessions that have experiential, interactive and skill-development components are preferred and can take many forms (e.g., workshops, tutorials, town hall meetings, debates, case studies, roundtables, panels, research incubators and other interactive formats). Key to these are knowledge sharing and creation, idea exchange and social interaction.

We encourage you to consider, but not be bound by, either the conference theme –20/20: Broadening Our Sight. or the OB Division spotlight on Affect in Organizations. More information on the conference theme can be found at the Academy of Management annual meeting website. In addition, more information on the OB Division’s spotlight can be found at the Division Website. We also welcome interdisciplinary submissions that can be co-sponsored by other divisions.

Overall, priority will be given to proposals that: (a) are truly a “professional workshop” comprising some interactive or skill-development component not provided by our regular program, with a particular focus on community building; (b) do not duplicate existing OB sponsored PDWs or another submitted PDW (if the latter, then the sponsors may be contacted to see if coordination is possible); (c) are creative and intellectually stimulating; and (d) are likely to appeal to members (e.g., across different career stages; including our international members). In light of this, PDWs that focus on research topics (i.e., research incubators, panels, interactive symposia) may be more suited to submission to the scholarly program as a panel symposium.

Please be sure to follow the Academy of Management's  PDW Guidelines for Submissions. Submit using the PDW Submission Center. The deadline for proposals is Tuesday, 14 January 2020 at 5PM ET (NY Time). We look forward to receiving your proposals!
