From Start-up to Scale-up: Coping with Organizational Challenges in a Volatile Business Environment
December 17-19, 2018
Tel Aviv, Israel
The Specialized Conference From Start-up to Scale-up: Coping with Organizational Challenges in a Volatile Business Environment featured research on the unique organizational challenges of start-up firms and entrepreneurial corporations that seek to grow within and beyond their established markets. Scholars from all management disciplines, as well as industry experts, strategists, entrepreneurs, venture capital experts, and policy makers were invited to participate in what proved to be a stimulating meeting in Israel, "The Startup Nation."
The Call for Submissions elicited 342 proposals from 49 countries and resulted in a dynamic mix of traditional and roundtable paper sessions, symposia, a doctoral consortium, professional development workshops, and journal paper development workshops from Academy of Management Discoveries and Academy of Management Perspectives. The conference also featured integrated panels from scholars and practitioners in the energy and healthcare sectors; keynote presentations; and a stirring debate featuring participants from industry, government, media, and academia.
The local organizing team, university collaborators (Tel Aviv University, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology) and supporting divisions (Entrepreneurship (ENT), International Management (IM), Organizational Behavior (OB), Organization and Management Theory (OMT), Strategic Management (STR), and Technology and Innovation Management (TIM)) created a unique and meaningful conference experience that attracted 349 conference attendees from 32 countries.

Abstracts of all papers and symposia presented at AOM Specialized Conferences are included in the Academy of Management Global Proceedings. The 2018 conference portfolio resulted in two new volumes of Global Proceedings: Vol. Surrey, No. 2018 and Vol. Tel Aviv, No. 2018. An archive section, including the AOM Africa Conference, was also added in 2018.
In 2018, the Academy of Management announced that the 2025 Annual Meeting will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark! After narrowing down a wide array of locations and gathering input from members, the Board of Governors selected Copenhagen as the location for AOM's first Annual Meeting outside of North America. The selection of Copenhagen was informed by a commissioned study to identify potentially viable cities (within and outside of North America) that could accommodate the AOM's unique meeting requirements.
