2020 OMT Division Professional Development Workshops: Call for Proposals
As a community of scholars, the OMT division is built from the desire to develop and promote understandings of organizations and organizing. We stand at the intersection of micro and macro analysis, providing a context for mutually beneficial intellectual engagement across disciplinary and other boundaries. For the 2020 Academy of Management Annual Meeting, which will take place from 7 August to 11 August 2020 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, we invite proposals for PDW sessions that creatively and innovatively contribute to this mission of our Division.
The aim of PDW sessions is to explore emerging or understudied research questions, advance novel theoretical perspectives, develop innovative empirical approaches, and encourage engagement with relevant but underexplored phenomena around organizations and organizing. PDWs can be organized in a great variety of formats such as workshops, tutorials, debates, roundtable discussions, town hall meetings, and many more. Most importantly, PDW sessions are intended for professional development of the participants; this means that participants’ active engagement in the sessions is essential.
We look forward to innovative, diverse, and inclusive PDWs that engage as large and as broad a representation of the OMT membership as possible. We particularly encourage submissions that address the overall AOM 2020 conference theme “20/20: Broadening our Sight” – a theme that offers many exciting links to the interests of the OMT community. For example, the topic invites discussions of dichotomies that stand in the way of producing actionable knowledge to address societal challenges related to conflict, discrimination, corruption, wellbeing, economic opportunity and equality, and climate change. The 2020 theme also encourages us to reflect on our own scholarly practices in this regard, notably how self-imposed dichotomies have emerged over time, producing strong professional and personal identities that may prevent us from creating and sharing knowledge that could be valuable for individuals, organizations, society, and our own profession. Let the theme inspire you – we are open to a wide range of different topics and formats that will interest the OMT community.
Acceptance of proposals for OMT PDWs will be based on (a) relevance to the interests of the Division's membership; (b) novelty and creativity; and (c) plans for creating an interactive and engaging session. We further welcome proposals that are of interest to members of other AOM divisions (e.g., ENT, STR, OB, MOC, TIM, etc.), although that is not a requirement for acceptance. Please indicate in the submission document what divisions and interest groups may be suitable as potential co-sponsors.
PDW sessions will be held on Friday, 7 August and Saturday, 8 August 2020 from 8:00 AM-8:00 PM. The Submission Center opens in early December 2019. All submissions are to be submitted electronically through the AOM Submission Center. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, 14 January 2020 at 5:00 PM ET (NY Time). We encourage you to submit early to enable the possibility of feedback to maximize your chance of acceptance.
